This course is designed for those who are providing care for older people, in any setting.

SYNOPSIS

The course centres around understanding loss, depression and dementia, providing participants with information to increase awareness and understanding of these subjects in order to identify good practice.

AIM

To enable participants to deepen their understanding of mental health in later life, and to identify ways of promoting mental well being.

OBJECTIVES

Having completed the course, participants will/should be able to:

1. Discuss their understanding of what constitutes mental health and well being.
2. Identify factors which can promote or undermine mental health as we age, which 
relate specifically to dementia and depression.
3. Discuss less common psychotic illnesses, such as schizophrenia, delusions and 
hallucinations and helpful interventions for clients with such illnesses.
4. List ways in which good care practice can contribute to mental well being.
