This course is designed for Care Teams who need to gain an understanding of the Rights, Risks and Limits to Freedom of Clients with Dementia or Related Disorders.
Synopsis
This 1 day course is designed for Care Staff and First Line Managers. It will clarify the purposes and principles of the topic within Scots Law and The Mental welfare Commission. Delegates will develop their skills and gain a basic knowledge in the topic, particularly in relation to their own clients / care areas.
Aim
The aim of the course is to provide participants with basic, working knowledge of Rights, Risks and Limits to Freedom of Clients with Dementia or Related Disorders. Not least to relate the law to clients in their own care settings.
Objectives
1. Understand the law and the Mental Welfare Commission's perspective.
2. Identify issues relevant to Staff, Clients and Relatives
3. Be able to assist in the client's status, representation, and advocacy
4. Identify ones own role in this process
5. Recall the relevant professions associated with the topic
6. Acknowledge Care Plans as a necessary, effective working tool for prescribing limitations where necessary.
