ABUSE OF VULNERABLE PEOPLE
–MANAGERS TAKING ACTION
DURATION: 1 Day
TARGET PARTICIPANT GROUP
The course is designed for those who are managing or co-ordinating carers who work with vulnerable people.
SYNOPSIS
The course will reflect upon training that all carers should have had I.e. Recognising & Preventing Abuse). It will identify the various forms which abuse can take, and those who are potentially at risk. The course also looks whether the said ‘abuse’ is witnessed, suspected or reported and what avenues are open to managers/coordinators if he/she or a carer raises a concern. It will look at referral procedures, including the No Secrets guidance.
AIM
The aim of the course is to allow the participants to explore the subject of abuse in relation to vulnerable people from a managerial perspective and gives the opportunity to explore appropriate actions thereafter. Attendees will discuss possible precipitating factors and what they can do to avoid potential abusing situations.
OBJECTIVES
Having completed the course, participants will/should be able to:
1. List ways that said ‘abuse’ can be highlighted
2. Give examples of how carers knowledge has been heightened and avenues of reporting or raising concerns open to them.
3. Identify appropriate routes of action upon the manager or carers’ expression of concern.
4. Explain environmental and personal factors, which managers need to minimise to protect their workforce.
5. List possible reasons for why being a carer can precipitate an abusing environment.
6. Describe a strategy for referral of such a case to the appropriate authorities, taking
into account the new No Secrets guidance.
