PERSONAL CARE

TARGET PARTICIPANT GROUP
This course is designed for those new into care, working in statutory, voluntary or private sectors, who wish to gain an introduction to the basic needs of clients, and how these needs are met.
SYNOPSIS
The course will cover the areas of client hygiene, toileting, basic observations, making beds, bed aids, mobility and nutrition.
AIM
To provide a basic knowledge of the elements of Client Personal Care and have an introduction to the skills involved in providing this.
OBJECTIVES
Having completed the course participants will have/be able to.
1. Give assistance in carrying out personal hygiene tasks and grooming.
2. Explain how they can help deal with incontinence and give help with toileting using various equipment e.g. bed pans, urinal, commode etc.
3. List the principles involved in bed making and the various comfort aids available.
4. Describe how basic observations are carried out e.g. temperature, pulse, respiration etc.
5. Recognise the importance of mobility and how this can be encouraged.
6. List the main requirements of nutrition for older people.
