Clinical waste

TARGET PARTICIPANT GROUP

The course is designed both for care and senior staff, within any organisation, who handle, or are likely to handle clinical waste, or dispose of or are likely dispose of clinical waste

SYNOPSIS

The course will explore and extend participants' knowledge about clinical waste: the forms it can take, those who are at risk, various explanations for the need to be vigilant and possible outcomes. Participants will go on to look at their own practice, including collections, storage and disposal.

AIM

The aim of the course is to provide participants with the opportunity to examine the wider issues of clinical waste.

OBJECTIVES

Having completed the course, participants will/should be able to :

1.Define clinical waste

2.Identify collection, storage and disposal methods

3.Explore individual responsibilities

4.Discuss the need for vigilance and the consequences of poor practice

5.Identify the main legal implications
